PRELUDE “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” arr. David Hegarty
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN “Be Thou My Vision” P. 502
*CALL TO WORSHIP
One: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from heaven, you that live in the heights above.
All: Praise the Lord, all God’s angels and heavenly hosts.
One: Praise God, sun and moon; praise God, shining stars.
All: Praise God, highest heavens, and the waters above the sky.
One: Let them all praise the name of the Lord! God commanded, and they were created;
All: Praise God, kings and all peoples, princes and all other rulers; the young, the old, and children too, for God’s name is greater than all others; the glory of the Lord is above earth and heaven. Amen.
*PRAYER OF INVOCATION
All: Gracious God, make each of us an instrument of your grace. Weave us into a community showing forth your power and tenderness. Bless us and our differences and undergird our courage to stand together. We call upon you in this hour to gather us in your love. Lead us to better know you and glorify you on each step of the journey of our lives. In the name of Jesus, let us now keep silence and breathe in the love of God. Amen.
ANTHEM “Have Thine Own Way, Lord” St. John’s Women’s Chorus
Jeremiah 1:4-10 (NRSVUE)
Jeremiah’s Call and Commission
4 Now the word of the Lord came to me saying,
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
6 Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.” 7 But the Lord said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am only a boy,’
for you shall go to all to whom I send you,
and you shall speak whatever I command you.
8 Do not be afraid of them,
for I am with you to deliver you,
says the Lord.”
9 Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, “Now I have put my words in your mouth.
10 See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms,
to pluck up and to pull down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”
Matthew 28:16-20 (NRSVUE)
The Commissioning of the Disciples
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him, but they doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

ORDER FOR INSTALLATION
One: The Northwest Ohio Association of the Ohio Conference of the United Church of Christ greets you in the name of Jesus Christ, the head of the church in heaven and on earth. Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.
All: Let us look to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was waiting endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
One: Members of St. John’s United Church of Christ, will those who are able rise and affirm your covenant with your pastor and teacher?
Church Members: We, the members of St. John’s United Church of Christ, receive Pastor Jeremy as our pastor and teacher, promising to labor with him in the ministry of the gospel and to give him due honor and support. We gather with him and with the United Church of Christ as a sign of our mutual ministry in Christ’s name.
One: Members of the Northwest Ohio Association and other faith traditions, will those who are able rise and affirm your covenant with St. John’s United Church of Christ and its pastor and teacher?
