PRELUDE   “Give to Our God Immortal Praise”             John Hatton

“Now Thank We All our God”  P. 14

One:   The heavens declare the righteousness of God.

All:      The earth declares God’s beauty.

One:   From the rising of the sun to its setting.

All:      God’s word shines forth in glory.

All:      Holy God, you call us to do good, seek justice, and care for those in need, yet how often we place our own comforts above compassion for others.  Forgive us, we pray, and cleanse us from these and all our offenses through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

                             (Moment of Silent Personal Confession)

PASTORAL PRAYER (Joys and Concerns)

One:   O God, your blessings are as plentiful as the stars above and as numerous as the grains of sand along the seashore; we come before you with grateful hearts as we pray for the church and the world, saying,

All:      O God of hope, increase our faith.

One:   We pray for wisdom and guidance for all people and leaders of this world, that they may foster peace and justice and serve the common good.

All:      O God of hope, increase our faith.

One:   We pray for your church, that by your grace and our faith we may serve you with constancy and love.

All:      O God of hope, increase our faith.

One:   We pray for those who are sick or suffer any need, that they would know your healing strength and find comfort through your faithful care.

All:      O God of hope, increase our faith.

One:   Help us to protect the goodness of your creation, that all may enjoy the precious blessings of this world as foretaste of the next.

All:      O God of hope, increase our faith.

One:   We remember those who have died and look to that heavenly city where with you and all your saints we will enter the everlasting heritage of your faithful sons and daughters.

All:      O God of hope, increase our faith.

THE LORD’S PRAYER (“debts” and “debtors”)

“O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee”     P. 589

New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition (NRSVUE)

Psalm 139:1-18

The Inescapable God

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down
    and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
    O Lord, you know it completely.
You hem me in, behind and before,
    and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
    it is so high that I cannot attain it.

Where can I go from your spirit?
    Or where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there;
    if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.
If I take the wings of the morning
    and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,
10 even there your hand shall lead me,
    and your right hand shall hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
    and night wraps itself around me,”
12 even the darkness is not dark to you;
    the night is as bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.

13 For it was you who formed my inward parts;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
    Wonderful are your works;
that I know very well.
15     My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes beheld my unformed substance.
In your book were written
    all the days that were formed for me,
    when none of them as yet existed.
17 How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18 I try to count them—they are more than the sand;
    I come to the end—I am still with you.

Mark 12:41-44

The Widow’s Offering

41 He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43 Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44 For all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

MESSAGE                 “Loving Hospitality”                 Adam Shanaman

*STATEMENT OF FAITH  “Apostle’s Creed”

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.  I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

“When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”    P. 261

  • Call to Sharing
  • Dedicating our Gifts (In Unison)

Lord, you look down from heaven, see all humankind, and long to call us home.  Accept these gifts on behalf of your people, that they would increase faith, nurture hope, and be reckoned as righteous in your sight.  Amen.

Response after Concerns:  Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayers.

            Response after Joys:  Praise be to God!
